My Dubai Desert Safari Experience

It was my first trip to Dubai and I was super-excited to be in the city that is home to so many architectural marvels. While I was looking forward to visit the Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall and Dubai Museum, the desert safari was at the top of my wish-list.

I and my two friends were picked up from our hotel in the afternoon by a tour representative. Three other people joined our vehicle, and we were taken to the place where the desert started. If you have never been to the desert, the vast expanse of sand would surely leave you awe-struck. The sun reflecting on the sand creates hues that you did not thing were possible.

While we were happy checking out the place and clicking pictures, we were also waiting to start the Dubai desert safari experience that we had heard so much about. We were asked to get into a 4×4 Hummer with deflated tyres. Our driver told us that vehicles with normal tyres cannot be driven on the desert as there was a chance of the tyres bursting. Hence, they were deflated before the journey.

Our first desert safari experience of dune bashing was scary and exhilarating at the same time. We were holding to our seats when our driver manoeuvred the vehicle through high desert dunes with ease. The car was filled with shrieks as the driver effortlessly bashed the dunes. Being a not-so-adventurous person, the dune bashing experience was scary and I shrieked the most, I guess. But the journey that seemed to last for a long time was exciting. Although I am not sure I would try it again, I would say that it was an amazing experience.

After the dune bashing session, we were taken to the desert camp. However, before we could enter the camp, camel riding and quad biking awaited us. Camel riding in Dubai desert safari was a bit disappointing as it was a really short distance. However, if you want to experience the feeling of riding a camel on the desert, you should go for it. While one of my friends went for camel riding, the other tried quad biking.

I, on the other hand, was enchanted by the sight of the desert, as the sun began to set. All I did while admiring the beauty of the desert was to click as many pictures as I could.

After we had our fill of the sunset, we entered the desert camp where a different world awaited us. The camp had a stage at the centre with rows of low-lying tables around it. Cushions were kept around the table for seating.

Other than this, there were several interesting huts or booths around the dining area. One of the booths offered refreshments in the form of tea, coffee, cold drinks and alcohol (comes with an extra price), there was another that offered henna tattoo. There was an area where you could smoke a shisha. At one of the booths, we found some Arabic clothes that we could wear and click pictures. We also were able to take pictures with a falcon on our hands.

As the night set in, the mood of the place turned electrical in anticipation, and we were not disappointed. We were entertained by two amazing artists, one who performed the belly dance and other who performed the Tanura dance. While the belly dancer was graceful, the constant spinning of the Tanura dance was inspiring.

After the performances came the highlight of the evening, i.e., the buffet dinner. We were treated to a feast of BBQ chicken and fish, falafel with hummus, pita bread, beans, salad greens, pasta salad, biryani, white rice with lentils, noodles, etc. The meal ended with the desert which was fresh fruits served with condensed milk.

At the end of the meal, we returned to our hotel with a stomach full of good food and heart full of great experiences. As our vehicle left the desert behind, I wondered how it would be to spend the night at the desert. But overnight desert safari would have to wait for the next holiday in Dubai. From this holiday, I take home fond memories of the best desert safari Dubai.
